Sustainable and high-quality coffee packaging – PMX 4001 with compact footprint

Coffee roasters are looking for a seamless transition to sustainable packaging solutions without compromising on the quality and shelf life of their coffee packaging. For this reason, Syntegon developed the high-performance PMX 4001 vertical bagger, which is ideally tailored to the packaging of ground coffee and whole beans – and to processing recyclable, sustainable packaging materials that meet the requirements of the European Union's new Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

According to the European PPWR, multi-layered laminates with less than 70 percent recyclability may no longer be circulated from 2030 onwards, which is why the PMX 4001 has focused on sustainability right from the start. It processes various packaging materials, from common mono to conventional composite materials. Based on the PMX platform, the PMX 4001 enables the processing of more sensitive recyclable materials and fills up to 65 gable top block bottom bags per minute with different sealing options.

Seamlessly integrated: recyclable degassing valves

Packaging for long shelf life

The integrated valve applicator applies recyclable degassing valves using ultrasonic technology, thus ensuring all-round sustainable packaging. Syntegon offers the VIS 10F inside valves, which were recently certified as recyclable within Europe by the cyclos-HTP institute.

To ensure aroma protection and long shelf life, the PMX 4001 uses not only degassing valves but also a low drop height when filling the beans to reduce the amount of residual oxygen in the packaging.

While aroma and taste win over coffee fans, it is usually the appearance of the packaging that influences the purchase decision. The PMX 4001 takes this into account and ensures a high-quality shelf appearance with precise sealing seams of the usual high quality.

Future-proof with minimum space required

Syntegon considered not only the product to be packaged when designing the PMX 4001: manufacturers get a robust machine with a long machine life. The Synexio Empower digital solution monitors not only the process parameters but also all machine functions as well as energy and resource consumption in real time and supports operators with predictive-maintenance functions. With a footprint of just 2.6 by 2.1 meters and a height of 2.2 meters, the PMX 4001 achieves all of this in a small space, meaning it is ideally suited even for production facilities with limited space. The PMX 4001 can be used as a stand-alone solution or as a seamless turnkey solution combined with secondary packaging machines such as the Elematic case packer, which is available as a wrap-around, side or top loader.
